“Paradise on Earth”, as sung in the Czech national anthem, alludes at the many wonders of the Czech Republic.

Breathtaking nature in national parks, UNESCO World Heritage sites and local specialities attract by around ten million foreign tourists every year – almost as many as the country’s population. And this figure only includes tourists staying in collective accommodation.

PLACES OF INTEREST

The Czech Republic boats one of the highest concentrations of UNESCO sites, making it challenging to choose the most important places to visit. Beyond the capital, Prague, don’t miss the opportunity to explore towns such as Český Krumlov, Telč and Kutná Hora.

Among the castles and chateaus, Karlštejn Castle, Hluboká Chateau and the Lednice-Valtice Complex are among the most beautiful and most visited.

NATURE

The Czech Republic is bordered by four national parks. The youngest, Bohemian Switzerland, is one of the country’s most stunning areas, though it was recently affected by a devastating fire that rendered some of its attractions temporarily inaccessible for safety reasons.

You could head to the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) to climb Sněžka, the highest peak in the Czech Republic at 1,602 metres above sea level.

Heading south from Prague, you’ll find yourself in the wild landscapes of Šumava. The unique Boubín Forest at its heart is the largest untouched remnant of primeval forest in Central Europe, with some trees over 400 years old. Further southeast, the last of the national parks – Podyjí – stretches along the Dyje River.
